Fake Malloch Reels?

Post by Reel Geezer »

Does anyone know if there are fake Malloch spinning reels out there in the eBay world now? I noted a reference to "this is not a reproduction" on one Malloch for sale, and than searched and found that there were 3-5 for sale this past week, with sales ranging in the $50-75 price. Have they just come out of the woodwork (or tackle boxes) all of a sudden and the price has dropped, or are there really fakes now?

It's another plethora of repros. See Stefan Duma's page, last item: http://orcaonline.org/images/pixel.gif?forgeries.htm :Bawl:

Yeah, lots of those Sun and PLanet repros out there so i here. I picked one up at an auction for 15 bucks thinking i got a steal, ran home, researched it against some photos and something just didnt look right. Asked a seller on ebay why he pulled one of his auctions of that same reel with the same engravings and he said that he was told it was a repro. Then i happen to come across that same web page noted above and there was that reel. oh well...its a nice decoration for 15 bucks, but it isn't as nice as a real Malloch! Anyone know who makes them and where people buy them from? Curious as to its retail value.
