I have had this reel for a few years and I’m struggling to find information about it. When I was 17 I inherited this reel and cleaned the corrosion and salt buildup off it so the reel would not keep getting eaten away. If anyone has any info on this reel or how to restore it, I’d appreciate it.
Penn introduced the Longbeach 66 in 1936. The knob shape and "coin edge" handle counterweight indicates it was from before 1948. The picture tail plate indicates it was made before 1952. The Hershey Kiss clicker button indicates it was made after 1948. So, it is likely a 1948 model with the old style handle.
You want to stop corrosion on the spool and frame. Vinegar will remove the corrosion. But, most people think that removing the pitting in the frame is going too far because you will end up removing most of the chrome plating over the brass.

Where are you finding this information or do you just have it in your head? I wish he was still around so I can ask him about it. I also have a Penn Senator from him which ill post about tomorrow as I do not have pictures of it at the moment.
Got it. I am invested on refurbishing/restoring the reel as I think it would be cool if I caught fish on it like my great grandpa did 60+ years ago. That is my next project to tackle which I am going to do a lot of research on so I do not mess anything up.
