Any Pflueger Experts, help needed with 1930 Circa Pflueger Ohio No.2558 Reel 250 yds

Post by sea ghost »

Hello Fellow Pflueger Reel Experts......sea ghost here :type:

I have this 1930 Circa Pflueger Ohio No.2558 Reel 250 yds

We are giving this reel a over haul and was wonder before I go further into the over haul,
if anybody can tell or know if this reel has been painted by somebody or is this a Pflueger Factory Black Satin Spray Job?

Or has anyone seen an early PFLUEGER Ohio catalog page or Paper Ad page indicating that this type of reel was black satin sprayed or black gun coated?

We noticed on the inside of the back plate that it looks like it was painted before the clicker button and clicker tongue was peened in which looks like factory work......please see pix

I could not find any info on this when we ran some research........
Any INFO or opions are appreciated..........

thank you & best regards

No, someone probably refinished the reel at some point. I don't believe they were sold with a paint finish. It does kind of look similar to the black, crackle textured finish on the Protecto metal tins that the Atlapacs were sold in but I believe the tins were supplied by another vendor and not painted by the Pflueger factory.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

Good eye…. I also noticed what you said about the crackle black spray the on the ATLAPAC tin cans, we own a couple of those tin can looking boxes with ATLAPACS in them,

Maybe back in the day someone who painted those boxes sprayed this reel as an experiment or prototype perhaps……..my wife is now saying to leave the paint on it……..thanx for your input,
I used to pull into Pearl Harbor all the time, I bought a lot of reels and rods from Dean over at the swap meet that goes around the old NFL pro bowl stadium…….maybe you know Dean? The salesman at the swap meet?

Yes, I've gone there myself a few times but didn't buy much from him, although he had a lot of stuff!
