Ted Williams Fishing Gear

Post by Crappie54 »

Can anyone tell me how to figure out what year Sears/Ted Williams fishing rods and reels were made. I am mostly interested in the gear made by Shakespeare. I went through the Sears Spring and Summer catalogs looking for Triple Crest push button 540 reels and the Triple Crest matching rod with the reel locking lever. The Triple Crest gear I have found in the catalogs were from 1962 to 1967. My 540 reel and matching rod have the letters CK on both of them which date them to 1981. By 1981 most of the TW gear was made in Japan. I'm not sure if Shakespeare used the same dating system for TW gear as their own gear. In using the Shakespeare dating codes some letters on TW rods and reels make sense. I have a rod with EP on it which tells me it is a 1967. A reel has EN on it so i believe it is a 1968 model. Thanks in advance for any help.
