Pfluger Supreme Model Identification

Post by PfluegerPhanatic »

Good afternoon!
I purchased a Pflueger Supreme a few months ago for $5 and am looking to grow my knowledge of this reel. I believe that this is a #1573 based on a quick consultation of the google, however I don't really know what I am looking at. The "Antique and Collectible Fishing Reels" book lists several models, but the reel in my possession does not have any model #s on it. I purchased two more Supremes that are shipping at the time of this post, both of which appear externally similar and have the same #2542 Cub handle. Was the Cub a standard feature for the Supremes? If you know what model(s) I have or have any information as to where I could find out where, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Dive into the member's library for the Reel News archives on the Summit (and other things Pflueger), and the Pflueger catalogs. I've done this for a number of reels, most lately for the Akron. Pretty cool places to go spend some evenings.

Adam,

The ORCA store has the book on The History of Pflueger Baitcasting Reels, 1901-1982. It is highly recommended. The link is https://www.orcaonline.org/orca-store/o ... 1901-1982/.

There are also Pflueger catalogs in the Library, and many Reel News articles on the Supreme.

Adam,
The various Pflueger reel books which ORCA once carried in the store are out of stock.

Your Supreme is a post-war 1573. When purchased new, the Cub handle was not on the reel but was included as an extra in the box.
I love to get old reels, work on them until they run as smooth as silk and the take them fishing using pre-1960 plugs, mostly surface fishing for Largemouths after dark.
