Shakespeare “Intrinsig”

Post by Mike N »

A friend of mine recently obtained this reel at an antiques fair. It’s pretty small as shown in the third photo. Any information (including regarding the stamping/spelling ending with the “g”) would be appreciated. Also, if you could give me a value range I would like to pass that along.

Thank you,
Mike

I can’t tell if the stamping is 31650 or 21650. The 16 indicating 16/16ths or 1” which is the narrowest, and 50 being the model number of the Intrinsic.
These were nickel silver and it should clean up nicely. The C that looks like a G was just fancy lettering in the style of the times, around 1910. The foot should tell you a model/date. The SERVICE reels of that period look like SERVIGE, and you find them listed that way on eBay. Shakespeare also had a line of Intrinsic rods. It looks like a take-down model, and all the parts look complete, original, and undamaged. Carefully cleaned and lubed it could bring $100 or more being the narrow spool. Nice find!

Your friend has a reel that is hard to find and sought after by Shakespeare collectors.

Here’s another Shakespeare model with the funny C, a 1914 PREGISION (PRECISION).
