Penn bayside 100yd

Post by jamesduncanNJ »

Hi everyone. New member but have been collecting for years when I see something that I like. Recently I bought a bucket of old penn reels, got everything they had that had a colored handle.. and then some lol.

Came across this penn bayside 100yd that’s in better shape than most everything else. Haven’t been able to gather much information on it other than it potentially was made in the 1930s. Only thing i did was wipe it down with a damp paper towel. If anyone could shed some light on what i have i would really appreciate it.

The Bay City was introduced in 1934.

That's a nice one. Very clean, waffle clicker and picture sideplate. The Bayside 100 was made from1934 to 1941. The waffle clicker button makes it 1934 to 1936.

Appreciate the info guys. I was only able to find one other thread for one that sold for quite a bit. Im not sure what they go for now or if the market is as hot but i can see myself parting with it in the future.

Truth be told I’ve been collecting silly cheap reels for most of my life and never got lucky enough to find one that’s worth anything. Yard sales and tackle swaps.. once i realized that i couldn’t really find much information about this model i got pretty excited lol.

Would love to hear any more details anyone can comment on!?

@1badf350 i got your email, i will save it and contact you if i decide to go that way. Shoot me an offer?

You have a very tough model to add to any Penn collection. Looks to me to be a 1939 Bayside. Congrats on the great find.

mike cass,,, if you can't collect it, it must be food

I’ve come across a few older Penn reels myself, and the Bayside models are definitely on the rarer side, especially if it’s from the 1930s. The colored handles are a cool touch—I’ve seen some that were swapped out back in the day, so that might be the case here. If it’s already in decent shape, I’d just give it a light clean with some reel oil to keep it looking good without messing with the patina.

The handle on this reel is original, I do not believe it was swapped out.
