Abu record 2300
I recently got an Abu record 2300 reel overall in great condition my question is did the free spool lever auto engage or was it just manually in and out of gear also looking inside it seems the clicker is constantly on
Re: Abu record 2300
I fished with one of those for a while and really liked it. It does not auto engage but that only takes a few minutes to get used to. You can hear the anti-reverse pawl engaging but I don't think it has a normal clicker.

Thanks for the info everything looked complete when I cleaned it I just wanted to make sure. I'm going to make a cork arbor for the spool and I have some nos 6lb nylon braid and see how she cast.
Re: Abu record 2300
I found making a cork arbor a lot harder than it looks because the width, balance and roundness has to be absolutely perfect. If not, you will feel it when casting and retrieving. The best way I found to fine tune it was to brace a file against the cross-bars and then lower it to the spool while cranking the handle to file down high spots. Then it needs a complete disassembly and cleaning to get rid of the dust.
I can't remember exactly, but do not think the Record has a hole or post on the arbor to attach a line. You can use that hole or post to pin the cork arbor to the metal spool. Without a hole you will need some sort of glue to prevent the cork from spinning on the metal arbor.

Re: Abu record 2300
I’ve got an older Abu reel myself, and the free spool lever is manual on mine too—you have to flip it in and out of gear. Pretty sure it’s the same for your 2300. As for the clicker, it’s normal for it to always be on unless you tweak it. I’ve seen people disable the spring if the constant clicking gets annoying, but I’ve left mine as is since I like the feedback when it’s running.
