Highly Unusual Pflueger Oceanic

Post by joe klaus »

I'm 95% certain I acquired this reel at the "mother of all auctions" in 2003. And subsequently, at some point during the next 10 years or so, I saw another of these sell on ebay. I knew the collector that purchased on ebay but have forgotten who. Perhaps they see these pics and chime in.

I had the reel with me at a show, and Don Champion and I had fun playing with it. The paddle on the tail plate demonstrates a brake. Don and I speculated that it was a demonstrative model for pflueger salesmen to use when showing to potential customers.

Has anyone seen another of these? Or does anyone have other ideas on what Pflueger was trying to accomplish??

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

Thanks Brian. I wish I had made a note of the collector that purchased one of these on ebay. I recognized the code name of the buyer and I thought I would remember. But....that was a mistake:-)
