Jim Schottenham brought his Side Mount Reel collection to the Gettysburg Super Regional CATC-NFLCC-ORCA show. It was and is spectacular and deserves any Best of Show accolades. My photography does not do it justice and I hope you will get to see it in some future venue or photography display. The completeness and rarity of the collection is not likely to be exceeded in the future. As you may know, these are some of the rarest and earliest reels of our dominion. Many are from the northeast and include most known makers. The reels are displayed with some of the best cases and materials, of museum quality. Congratulations and many thanks to Jim and Sandy Schottenham for bringing this to the show, despite some time constraints and their busy schedule. ORCA appreciates the effort and recognizes them for their contribution to the art.

Indeed! What a fantastic and priceless display of reels - the little sidemounts gave me a severe case of reel lust! Bill Hoerter also had a fascinating display of Wm. Slote reels. I especially liked the fly reels. Wish I had taken some pictures of his display to share. There were lots of great reels for sale from Hoagy Carmichael and others at the Show. The show room was conveniently located, spacious and well lit - will be nice for the ORCA National in October.

For me, seeing this collection was the highlight of the show. Having watched Jim lug those cases around and set up the displays, I can't thank him enough. It was no small task and travelling with a collection like that would have made me a big bundle of nerves.
Simply an amazing collection and beautifully presented.
