Value needed for a 1922 Marhoff Patent reel/gray box

Value for a 1922 Marhoff Patent reel/gray box

Had to pick this up as part of a big lot in order to get to a LURE i absolutely had to have!

Checked around- I saw similar reels (no box) selling for $25 or so… except for one WITH the gray box that went for $285! That one spooked me! Was it just a fake sell by the seller in order to boost the price the next time he offered it? So here I am— need a fair value for the combo. I did some researching. but just got lost with all the versions, details, dates, value of the box, etc. Appraisals needed. If you want to make an offer, that’s good too. Post here or email- no names will be quoted.

Reel is Ex-Ex, box is faded and shows wear but solid and from what I’ve seen, it’s about “Average”. I have more pics available and can answer questions. It doesn’t really fit into my Akron, or coin edge, or homemade collections so I’d like to pass it on.

Thanks as always for the help- good people here! Best—— Joe Walkowski (WNYTC ORCA)

Ok I did some deep diving on the value for ya. With the recent deaths of allot of large collectors. The amount of people paying anything crazy for these reels is gone. I’ve been buying reels that used to sell for $200/$300 for $30/$40. Sadly you’re gonna have to wait a a few years and see what you can get. If you sold that reel today, I’d guess between $75/$150 with the last sale which included 2 great examples with their early boxes.

And the only recorded sale of this box on WorthPoint takes ya back allot of years all the way back to 2012.

So all in all $75/$150. Good luck! It’s very Rare.

Thank you, kind sir, for all your effort! Just what I wanted. I appreciate your insight- yea, I've seen old lures taking the same route! I'm not an "investment collector"... but it is sad to see a Shakes Revolution in my collection that used to be worth $250, slowly fall to $150 ! But... as they say in the stock market- now's the time to buy!

Ah well, looks like I really paid high for that lot that I pulled the lure "I had to have" out of. At least I got the lure! Glad I didn't have any 401K money tied up in "vintage tackle futures"!

OK- well, I'll figure out a firm price and take a loss and post it at the For Sale section. Thanks again for taking the time. You're one of the good people! Best---- Joseph (ORCA)
