My latest find. Stamped Zero Hour Bomb Factory on the reel foot.
Spooled it up with 6 lb test, made a cast, major back lash.
There are 2 holes in the spinner head. Is the line supposed to go through one of the 2 holes?
My guess is that you need a lot of weight to cast these very far.

Re: Spooling a Zebco standard model
Post a couple of photos of it. If it's the original with the plastic spinning disc on the rear, after you press the release button you have to thumb that disc similar thumbing a casting reel. I had a Zebco 22 once upon a time. I hated trying to fish with that thing.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

IF you have 2 Holes in the Spinner Head then your Spinner Head is Black and a VERY RARE REEL or someone drilled them . The line does NOT go through the Holes ,Yes takes a gob of weight to cast and PLEASE post some pix . It is difficult for some to use the picture posting prog on this site so IF you want e-mail me the pix and I will post them for you .

Re: Spooling a Zebco standard model
Thanks for the replies. Mine has a light brown spinner head.
The 2 holes must be factory, as both have metal grommets in them.
As I am PC illiterate, I have never learned how to post pictures.
I have a model 11, it is hard to cast also.

OK you have holes in the side of the Spinner and the Color makes this the Last Version of the Standard Reel
It is still collectable. The one I was HOPING you had has the Holes in the top
There were 3 versions of this reel made ;
First was the Black Spinner and of those 25 were made the first day of production and are marked several ways to indicate that.
Second was the Red Spinner also some distinctive markings
Third is the most commonly found Tan Spinner . Those sell usually from 25 to 75 dollars with Box and paperwork
Great Reels in the Time but Cumbersome to use by today's' Zebco's
