Thanks for the great looking info page Paul!
Just to let everyone know, I've been in contact with out local weather man at WTEN, chanel 10 in Albany, He's agreed to be a guest judge at the show, and will provide a few "plugs" on TV to alert the public of this show. He's an avid fisherman and has a few antique tackle items of his own. I've also confrmed that one of the 2 regional outdoor writers will also be a guest judge, and provide coverage of the show in the regional papers. Add to that the radio show that Bill and I will be doing to promote the show, and you can see why I'm really excited about the event! I think the public is really gonna turn out for this one!
I'd love to hear from other ORCA members that would like a display table to show off to potential new members!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again ( I had a great time in Michigan!)

Oh, and did I mention that both Bill and I are working on getting well known authors of reel reference books to man the "stump the reel experts" table?

1St Annual NE ORCA Regional Show

Post by piscesman »

Bill & Jim,
Can't wait for the show! Have been waiting for a "reel" based show to come to the area for a long time. It should be a HUGE success. The only thing remotely associated is "The Great Outdoor Show" held at the EGG. Nice to visit but not antique related. The Desmond Americana used to have one from Clearwaters Tout Unlimited but haven't seen it in a few years. Can anyone come to the room trading on Friday? I haven't been able to get to an ORCA Show since Rochester, NY. IT would be GREAT to attend. Never hurts to ask... :loco:

Kim,
We'll look forward to seeing you on Friday for the room trading. I'm really excited about the show, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Did you have a chance to go the the Great NE Outdoor show this past year? I had an ORCA booth there w/ a display of antique tackle, and met a number of great people w/ an interest in this stuff. I think the public is going to be blown away when they see all the angling history on the show floor Saturday!
If you're in the Schenectady area, drop me a line. I'm in the ORCA directory.

Jim,
I never made it the Outdoor Show last(this) year. Heard about it the Monday after. People said it was very good. I'm sure we'll be in touch before the show. Always nice to see other peoples collections, beats work ! I never realized you lived so close until the recent show advertisement. Always thought you lived in NH or VT. With holidays around the corner things could take a while to settle down. Thanks a bunch.

Here's an update and more info!

Post by Jim Schottenham »

Response has been great so far, and I'd like to get more display table reservations. Remember, prizes are available for not only reel displays, but all around tackle as well.
A few things to note:
1) The public is allowed in free of charge after 9 am Saturday. Why no charge? We want to encourage people to c'mon in and see what we're all about. This is about education and preservation, not profits. That's why Bill and I are really encouraging display tables!
2) ORCA members will be allowed in at 7 am for set up, or "early buying" if you don't have a table. The public will be offered ORCA memberships to get in at 7 am also. This way, ORCA members have an advantage over non-members for early access to all the goodies at the sale tables.
3) We're promoting a "Stump the Reel experts" to encourage the public to bring in reels that they may not be able to ID. Bill has been talking with Jim Brown to assit us with this feature!
4) Room trading will be no different than that of an NFLCC meet, with rooms open Friday before the show.
5) There's lots of great resturants and shops less than 2 minutes away from the convention center!
Looking forward to seeing everyone, and please let Bill of I know if we can help in any way!

ORCA North East Regional Update

Post by Guest »

Just in case anyone needs another reason to attend the first ORCA Regional here in Upstate NY, a brand new Krispy Kreme doughnut shop just opened a block away from the convention center.
It's confirmed, ORCA authors Jim Brown and Ben "spinning reel guru" Wright have agreed to help man the Stump the Reel Experts table at the show. Bill and I will be on Outdoors with Lake Lonely this Saturday, March 6th to promote the show. If you are in the area, check out the show on WABY, 1460 am. I'll post show times when I get them.
I've also confirmed that Lang's auctions will be bringing items for us to preview for the upcoming Spring 2004 auction, so this'll be a great time to eye some great reels and misc. items before the auction preview at Boxborough.
:D

Last, don't forget that we'll have an award for best "All Tackle" display as well as best Reel Display at the show, so don't feel limited in your displays.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!

OK, OK, so this Saturday is not march 6th! But, that's when the show is (we tape it March 4th) on the air. Did I mention the Krispy Kreme shop yet? 8)

Krispy Creme(sp)?

Hey Jim, Is it true that you sold Krispy Creme a whole page in the
upcoming issue of Reel News? Do you work on commission, or just
donuts ?

You Bet!

Hey, I'll be there and I am bringing the most extensive formal display of fishing reel tools ever shown at an ORCA event! And some stumper reels, too! (Are we gonna be on TV?) :?:

I am still looking for an ORCA member to pick up on my way through Port Huron, Canada and Buffalo. (Carl Schultz my usual traveling Bud will be recovering from hip surgery so he's a bust.)

And I'm bringing some tuff early German Silver Coxe freshwater reels that will nock your socks off (none of them Coxe 25 types - I'm talkin' the reel stuff!)

Some of you locals should tell me what else to bring, like stuff you don't usually see in your part of the world so as how I can charge gougie  type prices for things that are pretty common over here in the Michigan-Ohio Valley area.

Bill & Jim - you got my table ready yet? I like to be in a spot where I can disrupt the whole room!

Len,
Yep, we have tables set aside for you, in a prime location for disrupting the entire group!
And, lets see, I know that here in Upstate NY we NEVER get to see any reeeeealy narrow spool Shekespeare reels (ya know, kinda like the one you picked up at the Kalamazoo auction...nudge nudge...)

Anyone with some details about what we all missed today? It's not as sunny as my Avatar profile photo so thought more about the show today!
