The photo shows the markings on the bottom of the foot of a Pflueger Buckeye...The marking is correct, 993JDH, as it is a Model 993 Jeweled with 'Double Handle...My question is, did Pflueger ever do this or did a previous owner do it?...Thanks
cool-thumb jump USA , Jerry, a few more pics will help! it looks as if the foot has been cut off, or added from another reel, posibly a factory repair! note the screws arenot lined up like a factory reel. See if you can show more pics, ie the front handle side, tail plate and reel from back pllers, and from the front showing the pillers and from the top looking down with a good shaot of the spool. as i satated the foot looks as if its cut off and the screws are not alligned up well! Milt...Here is a link of a whole bunch of photos...I have two Buckeyes so you can compare the feet...the CBH model the screws are worn slick but you can compare the length and shape of the feet...Have fun and thanks...Jerry
Yo Jerry-Enterprise rarely put the model number on the foot. The only other reel I have seen with the number is a 1573 Supreme. There is no logical reason for the DB on the foot since the foot has nothing to do with the handle style. Can't figure this one yet. As to the Supreme, it was critical to that reel as other feet would not fit, but still they just picked them out of a big bin I would guess when asssembling so why put the number on the foot? Could have benn a repaired reel possibly. And the Buckeye foot is likely interchangeable with several other reels. A puzzler. Anything else about the reel unusual?
My Guess - reel had basic model info stamped on foot before sending it to the artists who would do the drawings for the ads and brochures. Any 'attached' tag would be taken off by the artist during the artistic process, then misplaced, then confused with another reel (or lost - not that I have ever done that!) so a stamping was the best way to keep'm identified.
