Post by Tony Malatesta »

Hi guys! Does anyone out there have a spare spool for a Ocean City 988 that they would sell me. The original spool is green but i would settle for a replacement. Thank's! :?: Canadian

Hey Tony, it's probably one of those things where most don't know they have them in those vast piles of reel parts. Maybe a picture of your reel would help. In the meantime, seems like emailing Dick Janak or Col. Milt direct is worth a try, if not faster. Wish you best of luck in finding your spool!

O.K! Heres a picture of the reel. Not rare by any means, but you can see why i need a new spool. Found it at the bottom of a pile of reels and couldn't resist.

Ocean City 988 spool

Post by Dick Janak »

Tony, according to my schematics a 980 spool will not work in a 988.You can yse one from a 978.979,or a 987.I have a dozen new OC spools that I don't have part numbers for .If you can give the measurements of the spool in your 988 I may be able to help you out.I need the diameter in inches of the spool where it fits into the side plates. Also I need the width between the spool and also the width between the spool shafts, that would be the widest part of the spool.Let me know...Dick Janak

Hi Dick! Heres the info. you requested. Width between the spool is 1.75 inches. From shaft to shaft its 2.75 inches. The spool width is 2.25 inches. Hope this helps. I'd really like the green one but a replacement will do. Contact me at my email Thank's.

Tony, if you're still looking for a spool this may not help but if you want what looks like to me to be a brand new 987, drop me a note. I may have one for you.
