sorry...this might be a stretch to get to reel relatedness :D Perhaps I'll go up on the deck and use a rod and reel and a good saltwater bone jig to raise the lid and invite the queen to find new digs! I'm thinking maybe an 6/0 Senator with 6 1/2 ft standup rod.

Check your phone book... there are bee keepers (at least there are here) that will come pick up hives and swarms if they can keep the bees (like you would want to keep them yourself). They will have the equipment to do it safe too... hate to kill them off (but fyi soapy water works rather than serious stuff in your grill) If you get someone to haul them off you may have to use it on the stragglers...
If you cant find it under bees or bee keeping look for local honey ads... your AG extention agent may know a keeper too.

Doubtful you have killer beez that far north... we only get them now and then here. Our fire departments are equiped to handle hives.

I wouldn't poke at them with anything short of a deep sea rod of substantial length... cook steak inside in broiler till the grill is safe.
I'm hard pressed to make it tackle related too but... DANG thats a lot of bees...

Oh, and you aint seen a fraction of them! most are inside that thing! I called this one fellow and he said "shur..I'll get rid of them for you, but it will cost you $150!" i said bye.

It's dark now and the steak was fine grilled indoors. i'm about to go out and try to figure out how to get the lid up..I figure she'll want to take the kidz elsewhere if it'a all opened up! Look for news items.

And El, we're not as far "north" as i'd like on that one...they've found africanized bees well north of here! I quote from the keeper of all knowledge...Google..

"FACTS ABOUT AFRICANIZED HONEY BEES

The Africanized honey bee (AHB) has migrated steadily northward since its accidental release from a breeding program in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1957.  The bees entered California in 1994 and have now completely colonized Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles Counties.  This spring, the northern edge of the AHB migration reached portions of Kern and Ventura counties. Although Africanized honey bees are currently not found in San Mateo County, they are expected to eventually migrate up the coast into northern California."

I don't imagine they are, however...area is full of citrus and avocadoes and bees are kept all around for pollenation.

John, I'm not much of a cook, but I think your recipe for Honey Baked Ham is seriously flawed. Even in Kentucky we know you have to take the cover off the grill first.

I've heard of deep fried and chocolate covered grass hoppers but grilled bees...thats a new one to me. Maybe you'll start a new food trend. You'de better call the food network you may be on to something here. By the way whens the last time you grilled out?

I suggest a LONG cast with heavy salt water tackle... a big treble hooked lure to snag that lid... if you are lucky you may be able to carefully pull the whole thing outside before lifting lid (deep sea tackle with high test line to move that grill)... that way they won't just move into the dryer or attic or some place even more difficult to extract them from... The soapy water in spray bottles DOES work too... doesn't upset them like pesticides do. I use it on red wasps sprayed from one of those high power water guns kids have now days.
I would however start off by just opening the lid and see if they take the hint in a day or so before you give them marching orders...

I don't imagine they are Killer bees– you wouldn't have made it outa there after the photo that close without a good stinging...
