Looks like 1 of the many Pflueger trade reels, although at first appearance it looks like a Hendryx.

Younguy,
To help with identification, it is generally best to check the design of the foot. There are several classic designs in oldreels.com. Look under the heading Reel Identification to view photos.

Notice that Pflueger reels have a rounded foot, so that would rule out Pflueger. Next see that Hendryx have the riveted design to the pillars. So, what is left?

Well, Montague made many, many reels of your deisgn, so that would be my first selection. To further determine Mfg, take a few diameter measurements of the pillars, and compare these with marked reels. I have found that this separates makers quite easily.

Hope this helps.

Dale.

I don't really have much to compare it to in my collection, raised pillars are a fairly new area for me, but the diameter of the pillars is .1640 inches if anyone else can compare it to some.

I was looking through my different portage reels last night and found a eureka 200 yard model that had a foot similar to the one above. Did portage ever put feet like that on reels or were they all like jerry's?

Not all Pflueger reels have the same foot design. The 4 Bro's have the same shape as your reel in most cases, depending on the reel vintage. I have several 4 Bro with both desings.

An article in Reel News Vol 7, #2 Summer 1997 by Dave Lehmann provides a discussion of the different designs, as well as other features related to Pflueger, like handle shapes, nob shapes, faceplates, etc.

There is much detail, i.e., in one instance, he states: "...line capacity numbers are generally less than 0.100" high. Alternately, Montague, whose reels are often confused with Pflueger's ,has large numbers on their standard reel foot". Maybe this bit of evidence will help with ID.

I don't have a 150 yd to compare dimensions since many of my larger reels had solid metal castings which are not comparable dimensionslly. Keep in mind the SHAPE of the Pillars as well as the diameter should be comparable.

Hope this helps some.

Dale.

ps: I have a neice going to college in Houghton. Now, how deep did the snow really get?

The snow gets really deep on average we get just about 250 inches or more. This week alone we've gotten over a foot, probably because my car broke down and i need to walk this week :D . Thanks for your help

I did a little measuring and the numbers are exactly .100 in. One difference i did notice on the handle that my portages and pfluegers don't have in the counter balance weight on this one does not have a rounded top like the others it is a cylindrical shape all the way to the end.
