Crossing through Canada

Post by Reel Geezer »

Can any of you Michiganders tell me if it is easy enough to drive from Port Huron to Niagara Falls or Buffalo? Marilyn and I are considering that drive on our trip east to the ORCA Convention. I realize we need birth certificates and Bert needs his rabies shots, but I'm wondering about a load of fishing tackle and books.
Thanks for your help.

I would check with US Customs and ask them about the tackle and books, to determine if you can document it before you cross the border. I'm thinking it would be harder to get into Canada with the stuff than out, but if there's a way for US Customs to have it documented, that may solved both possibilities.

I did it for Rochester and again for last year's Regional in NY - I had one guy lift my hatch on the way back from the Regional and that was it. It is tricky driving arounf Toronto other than that it is a lot like Idaho . . .

I think you have it all wrong. Are you sure that it is Marilyn and Bert that need the birth certificates and it is you that need the shots?

I've gone through customs probably 10 times with boxes of reels and such and never had a problem, the only problem i had going through customs over there was from my roomates medication.

Phil,
We've traveled Canada for a while. NEVER had a problem. If you look like a tourist then they will let you past no problem...Many a times our 2 labs have been sleeping while crossing the border. The border control never noticed. Didn't ask DON'T tell! Always had their papers on hand, just in case. Good Luck in your travels. New York is still faster than Canada. Straight shot on I-90 and North on I-87 at Exit 24. Hope to see you there.
