Is that a downrigger on the back?

Myself, I think I would have just found every religion in the book, and prayed to all of them.

I'm not sure I would have wanted to see that in my 25' Boston Whaler.

I read it was Australia: we don't use the metric system (and especially don't wear those types of hats here!). That thing on the back is his rudder but it's been retracted up.

Believe it or not, Great Whites were thought to be extremely rare here but lately because of better technology, they've been tracking them as they migrate here for the winter from Northern California and back. Everyone wants a vacation from the cold, I guess. There were a few sightings and one suspected non-fatal attack reported over the years but no photos were ever produced. That is until last month. A dive tour, or get this - more like a shark feeding tour - videotaped one very fat 18 ft. female as it came in to check out the boat and cage. One of the operators had the crazy notion to jump in, since it seemed "docile", and actually swam with and touched it for several minutes. I think the fellow had a death wish. Still, a very rare occurance and there are definitely more things in and on the water that I'd be more scared of running into (or run over by), like a nut on a jetski.

By the way, to make this post legit, I hear that the reel used as a prop in Jaws is a 16/0 Penn.

Thanks Brian, I'll help also.
The check on this WWI Heaton 4" salmon reel sounds exactly like the Penn on Jaws.

I think John may be right about where that picture was shot.
It is just about as phoney as these.

And Ron, are you sure that clicker isn't a downrigger.
That would be some reel spool music. Great shot.
