Star Reel Co. ?

Post by Tom E. »

I've come by the cutest little purple reel box. It has a stick-on label that says One New Model Tournament Level Wind Casting Reel No. A1 80 yd. Star Reel Co. Curious about the company and the reel.

Also wouldn't mind finding the reel for the box.

Tom,
Talk about the right time & place! Steve Vernon & I were discussing the Star Reel Works & the Star Reel Co. at the convention. Is there a location for Star Reel Co. on the box? If so, could you send a couple of pics to my email? Don Champion -

Don, Tom

Here is a reel with a STAR imbedded in the Bakalite tailplate. Wonder if the Star also infers the name of the mfg.

Any idea if this reel is made by Star Reel Co. There are no marks. There is a drag control on the Headplate, and a clicker on the Tailplate. The foot design similar to some Union Hardware types. I have several other reels of the same mfg w/o the Star.

Any help appreciated. Dale.

Dale: I think you'll find that reel was made by Bronson. Our Bronson expert Dave O'Rourke might be able to confirm that. Or deny it.

Star on left, A&I Rex on right (http://reeltalk.orcaonline.org/viewtopic.php?t=3554). Fleetwing footlike, folks?

Here are two different boxes for the Star Reel Co. Both are marked A1. One is marked new model.

Here is an A1 that is not marked new model. It is identical to Union Hardware reels except the stamping on the cover.

Here are 3 pics of one that came in the new model box - however are not marked new model or A1. It looks very similar to the one above except the back plate on this one is brass and there is no ABL.

I have seen several different varies of these reels. These are the same as the Union Hardware reels I also have. The only problem with that is I am not sure who manufactured what reels for Union Hardware. They are also in the same type of box that Union Hardware uses.

Both reels are marked Tournament Wellworth however they do not state that on the box.

I would guess the reel above with the embedded star is a Star Reel Company reel in just another variety.

Now - who can add more to this?

Looks like someone could make a career collecting Tournament Wellworth Casting Reels marked with "Image Reel Co."

Star

Post by Teal »

Hi y'all,

I have seen Star Reel Co. Tournament Wellworth reels made by Shakespeare and Montague, and own one Union Hardware model.

Someone please sort this out for us! I was told H&I distributed Star Reel Co. reels...anyone know if there is truth behind this?

Cheers,

Todd

Steve,

That looks quite a lot like my Shmelzer's Ideal. Look at the tailplate and the foot.

I've been told it's a Montague.

Clinton
