Zebco 802

Post by Ron Mc »

A friend showed me his childhood reel tonight and asked me to find out what I can about it.
I've never seen one, not that I know a whole lot about Zebcos.
(although Daiwa collectors may not like that I like Feather lights better than Minicasts)

If you friend wants a factory copy of the diagram advise and I will see if I have both pages. Your ohio Conection On Lake ERIE COL. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG

 :D 8) :!:  jump  jump usa Ron, I admit my mistake , the 802 was different colors and looked a bit like the 202 also the 802 was Black and Grey and a solid Black. , the 202s were Black no anti rev, black manual anti rev switch 20 notch, black automatic anti rev 20 notch green automatic anti rev 20 notch and the red &white Boy scouts with a 20 notch automatic anti rev! Ron, ZEBCO made some very interesting reels , expermental reels and made expermental chages on drags, anti rev items, handles etc. I have some rather odd stamped reels with a x on the foot, one with a L and J2 stamped on the foot with the stamped ZEBCO on the foot, I have several 202s with a X stamped on the foot no ZEBCO , however the body has the ZEBCO and 202 in Glod letering on it> I just sent Carol Grisham at ZEBCO one of them so her and Clint can decide what it is! Evertime I find a ZEBCO with a unknown letering of numbers , I add it to my acumulation. My personal thoughts on this? Ron, after I clear it with Clint and ZEBCO I will do a compleate write up on it ! Its my personal thoughts that ZEBCO wants to make the best woklable product with it not outpricing itself off the market! so far they have done a excelent job of doing this! I am HOOKED as the saying goes, for 30 plus years I have seen our names Like Pfluger, Shakespere, South Bend etc do changes like gear ratios, drag set ups , and sharing name changes etc and also using interchangable parts with so called Competitors reels! PHOOY! Thats a whole (new reel park!) seems as if some company made parts to fit the major 3 players , I can darn well prove that fact! any time any place! However ZEBCO seems to lean on their own ideas. Nuf for now stay tuned! Your Ohio Conection On Lake Erie Col. Milton Loens aka SWIM JIG

Hi Guys,

Thanks for asking about this one. I have one of these too and always wondered why they were made. Mine is brown in back and tan in front. Zebco had an entire pallate of colors that were available and marketing would choose whatever they thought would sell.

The 802 comes from two facts. The reel is the size of a 202 and uses the same internal design as the 808. 802.

The new 202s have the same spinnerhead as the 802. I don't know why they stopped using the sine-wave spinnerhead as the original 202s. (the original 202 was black with round white crank knobs.

Regards,
Clinton
