I have 2 Shakespeare fishing reels that are older

Post by lisaspot1973 »

Just wondering if anyone can tell me the approx value of these reels I have! Both are Shakespeare. One is a Wondereel model 1920 model GA which is from 1940 and the other one is a Thrifty model 1902 model fe from 1956. Both are in good condition but the model GA is missing two screws one on each side of the reel! If anyone can help me I really would appreciate it!
Thank you
Lisa

I wish I could give you better news regarding value but unfortunately (I suppose), the 2 reels are likely worth less than $25.00 total (for both of them).

I think your reels are interesting, and perhaps you might want to hang onto them and eventually pass them along to another family member.

TYVM...I saw one of them on Ebay going for 19.99. I think the idea of passing them along to a family member (our son) is a great idea! Ty again!

Lisa,
Ok. Understand. Just send an ORCA Personal message (PM personal message) directed to me. Or, you may send a self addressed envelope. I will return with some screws. My address is listed in the Mar issue of Reel News.

Dale,
Great offer to Lisa. Just a reminder: Shakespeare changed the thread pitch after 1946 so later screws won't be the same. I think you already knew that.
And Warren is right.

Harvey,
Thanks for tip. I found out when I tried a NNOS screw. So, I got out one of my 1920 GAs and remeasured. Didn't know they changed the thread pitch, but knew fit was different. Measured dia with Micrometer to be a few thousands different. Anyway, I found several that would fit Lisa's reel ok.

:) 8) :!: :?:  :type: jump jump usa , the old style thread pitch wont fit new style reels , However the new flat style threads will fit the old style reels! ie flate pitch to sharp v pitch will work sharp v pitch to flat pitch will not work! the shoulders are different!
