OLD BAKELIGHT AUTO FLY REEL

Post by A. WILLIS »

Image I HAVE A REEL THAT I COULD USE HELP WITH. IT WAS IN A TACKLE BOX FROM AN ESTATE. IT IS BAKELIGHT I THINK. MADE IN FRANCE. MITCHELL-GARCIA PERHAPS. HAS A LOCK AND UNLOCK SETTING ON ONE SIDE. I WONDER HOW OLD IT IS AND IF IT HAS ANY COLLECTORS VALUE. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU COULD OFFER.

Yes, it is a Mitchell - model 710?
Auto fly reels haven't quite found their niche as collectables, with the exception of the early Yawman's and Meisselbach's,
(and early boxed Martins - especially the trolling reel - making a good showing).
The Mitchell is kind of cool for that little round line guide.
But I'm afraid there are enough of these in new/mint/boxed condition, that the value of yours is going to be about $10-15.
