Help with Record Reel

Post by luredin »

I found a reel in MI that is marked, "Record" on the hard rubber side. It is also stamped, "60" on the bottom of the reel seat. It is a small (2 1/2 - 3") reel made of German silver and jeweled on both sides with hard rubber side plates. Any ideas? I cannot find it in any book. It looks like a small Vom Hofe. I am not a reel collector and trying to ID this reel. Sorry, no picture at this time. Thanks, Rick

Record reel

Post by fishbugman »

From my experience, there is probably more than just Record as a name on the reel, even if the rest of it is worn off. I have a couple different hard rubber reels marked "Record Casting Reel" and "New Record Casting Reel" and they were certainly made by Montague. Mine are nickel over brass construction, but they could be German silver?
