Newell's Universal Reel

Post by Tyler »

I'm trying to find information on a reel I have. It is an aluminum automatic reel and it is marked on the backplate around the periphery of the reel, "NEWELL'S UNIVERSAL REEL" "PAT'D DEC 17-1895". I have never seen another one but would guess there are others out there, it does not look like a prototype. It has a total of 7 crossbars, including the two the foot is attached to. There is a small lever that comes out of the sideplate by the foot that is spring loaded. Has anyone ever heard of the maker or know anything about the reel. Sorry for not having pictures. Will try to post some when I get the capability. Thanks to all and sure regret not getting to the annual. The pictures of Henry's family place are wonderful. Tyler
