A little help from my friends!!

Post by Harvey »

Over the years I have picked up a half a dozen or so of these bakelite reels. I have them marked Shakespeare, H&I, Weber and one unmarked. All seem to be made by the same company due to design, color, mold marks, knobs, clicker spring etc. Knowing nothing more about them or who was the maker, I had always assumed that the maker would mark them for whom ever.
Waa-Laa! Now I find a H&I "Vernley" that is made of black material, a different click spring and different cut-outs on the back from the standard brown ones. The first picture shows a bunch of the brown ones marked for different companies. The following three pictures show the black one on the right compared to the brown one. My question to you guys is: does anyone have any of these reels that are not brown or marked for a companies that I mentioned? This in not an earth shattering research project, just something that attracted my interest.
Please, when you have time, look thru your 'junk" stuff and see if you can help.
Thanks in advance,
Harvey
