With the addition of the little size 3 1/2, I'm two sizes away from completing this set. I have a #1, 2 and 3 1/2 (shown below) and need just a #4 (really tiny!) and a #3. I'd be happy with either a #454 (unbound) or #464 (German silver bound) in either size I need.
Thanks for any leads!
Jim
Jim: Are you saying the number system is backwards in this series with th #4 being the "tiniest" of these? ...or did you just print the digital image backwards? I can't tell which side the ocean is on and the shadows from the sun could be AM or PM
Hi John,
The Vom Hofe size number system seems to be somewhat consistant with other reel makers marks of that time frame. The sizes for VH's were:
#5 - 2 inch diameter - 40 yards
#4 - 2 1/8" diameter - 60 yards
#3 1/2 - 2 3/8" diameter - 80 yards
#3 - 2 1/2" diameter - 100 yards
#2 - 2 3/4" diameter - 150 yards
#1 - 3 inch diameter - 200 yards
1/0 - 3 1/8", etc
2/0 - 3 3/8"
3/0 - 3 5/8"
I've got a few ball handle reels marked with a #6 that are 25 yard models, and I bet we'd find someone here that might post a picture of a #7 or 15 yard reel if we try...(anyone?)
