Merv: if you are wanting to discuss a Lew's made by Shimano, I can probably help you. If it is one of the Ryobi made reels, I'm not up to speed.

This little 3 way Lew's reel.. It uses a clamp to attach to the rod or pole. The lever on the side that looks like part of the reel foot works just like the lever on a automatic reel. You press down to let the spool spin. Plus it has a drag on the center of the reel. It is small about 2 inchs. But build very heavy. The top of the spool is metal and the bottom half is plastic. What kind of fishing did he have in mind for this reel. Being from the south you would think it was not for ice fishing. It is just build to well to be a kids reel. The line that came with the reel is light 4 to 6 pounds. I just never seen on like this before. Any ideas.

Lew Childre started out going to the far east to buy bamboo cane poles. He selected prime stuff, sent it back to the US and then traveled around the SE and sold his cane poles to bait shops, boat liverys, etc. Your reel was made to be used on his cane poles. It would be used to fish for bream and crappie.

As in most old tackle I buy. Probably less then I paid for it. But to me if I like something It is worth what I paid for in my eyes. A great and very smart man almost said Value is relative. Instead he was talking about time. But back to the reel probably around 20 dollars give or take.
