Right hand left hand on a Supreme

Post by swede »

Hello ! this is swede and my first post here.
Exuse my english if it´s bad.

My question is abauot an Pfluger Supreme (flyreel) 577 DA usa made between 1968-1982 (i think).
I wonder if this reel is possible to change from right hand to left hand winding thow i prefer the left hand for this.

The letters DA where they for dual action ? and ment it´s changabale
in which hand to use.

There´s a handle on the backplate ? which can totally stop the spool
from going out (works when winding in) what was the purpose with this
function.

If the change works, how do i do it ?

Any one, any one, please give me some help.

swede.

Pflueger 577-578

Yo Swede! The lever on the back plate is for anti-reverse. Later it was advertised as a "ne strip control lever" whereby you can bypass the drag when stripping line. It was never described as convertible to left hand. Can't figure how it could be done. The "DA" is a Shakespeare dating code thing I believe. Means your reel is from late 70s likely. Some Shakespeare guy or gal will give you the correct info on that. Shakespeae purchased the Pflueger corporation in 1966. You are correct-the 577-578 came out in 1968. Great saltwater or salmon reel. The world's top expert on Pflueger fly reels is member Stu Lawson. He would be glad to help you further I am sure. As we say in the South, Ya'll take care, heah? Thanks Bob for answering me.
It s a nice reel so i might have to work on my right hand winding then.

Hope Stu read this and further help me out.

Hello
Now i have come to understand my Wheel a bit better, fooled myself
when mixing whith it whitout line on. Realized that the shifter handle
on the reel works between turning handle and standing still, while line ís going out.

If Stu The PRO I HEARD) are here, (ore anyone else) i wonder, is it possible to dismantle
(removing) the triangular dragnobb then release the axel for cleaning
and lubing (greaseing) inside of these parts.

It´s a bit uneven in drag at the moment.

Whele i try´d at least.

Anyone ?
