Bob:
Please forgive my wisecrack reply to your question. After looking at your fine Enterprise Manufacturing Company Patents book, the answer appears to be the one given by our young friend from Michigan.
Don't want to split hairs here, however in the 1977 Pflueger catalog (the last one which I have) this model is listed only by it's number; the 1893L, with no mention of the name "Akron". And knowing how precise you are, I assumed that once again, you would "catch" me sleeping at the keyboard.

Akron
Ron Mc and John Elder wrong, Young guy right. But seemed to express little confidence since he followed his answer with a question mark. Jim, you are correct as well. No name but only number in 1977 or later. I don't have the 1976catalog but in 1975 the name was still there. Must assume that Shakespeare decided that Akron was by then no longer associated by most anglers with Pflueger products? Little did they know we collectors would never forget!
By the way, there was almost a 20 year gap in the history of this reel when none were offered. Know when that was? Bad Bob

Akron trivia
The earliest Akrons (NLW and more valuable than sapphires) were gone sometime in 1907 and reappeared as Pflueger's new levelwind reel for "the inadequately budget-endowed angler (politically correct wording-best read as "for fishermen poor as church mice" or "the common ole bass angler"). Even cheating is ok here since you are not being graded. Aloha Brian! Bad bob
