WANTED: Wooden line spools with nice labels

Post by johnsetch »

This is my first ever posting on this board. Does anyone on this board have any nice pre 1950 wooden line spools for sale or trade?

My name is John Etchieson and I am a Collector and buyer of all brands of VINTAGE (1800s - 1950s) FISHING LINES on Wooden Spools with very colorful and graphic images on labels that are intact (no holes punched) or in Coils on very Graphic and colorful Cards that are clean and not torn

I am also seeking any FISHING LINE Company's Product Labels, Catalogs, Brochures, Pamphlets, Store Displays, Signs, Banners, Company Letterheads, Advertising, Salesman Samples, Factory Photos or Factory Records or Documents.

I collect anything that is directly related to the HISTORY or to the PRODUCTS of American Companies that MANUFACTURED or SOLD "FISHING LINE" from 1800s to 1950s.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY "FISHING LINE" RELATED ITEMS EITHER FOR SALE OR TRADE THAT I CAN ADD TO MY COLLECTION.

To view some examples of the type of fishing line items that I collect you can view a picture album here: http://orcaonline.org/images/pixel.gif?8778560
In addition to this album link, there are several other albums you may also view by clicking the MORE ALBUMS button.

Hello ORCAns,

John is a great guy and he is doing really, really important research on early line manufacturers and the fishing line industry. I'm sure a bunch of you have line spools lying around you don't want or use. Get in touch with John as I am sure he will be interested in them!

For those who don't think line spools are related to reels, keep in mind these line spools have helped identify the majority of trade names that companies used in America.

Hope to have the book America's Vintage Fishing Lines 1800 - 1950 finished by the summer 2007. Thanks for asking. John

I am in possession of a pamphlet that was included in some reels from the Shakespeare Company, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
It gives specs and pricing for "Shakespeare Super Silk Casting Lines".
Not sure of the year(s) printed; and am not interested in selling it.
I will be glad to send you a copy for info
