Definition of FRUSTRATION

Post by orourke »

So I am at a garage sale. Only two customers there, me and another guy. First thing out of his mouth is "got any fishing stuff". Damn, the lady running the sale says she doesn't thing so. We both mill around and buy the odd ball junk that fills our garages and basements.

I see a hook sharpener new in the package and toss it to the guy. Then I look up and see a dust covered fly rod hung up high where the roof joist meets the wall. I dance around for almost a half an hour hoping this guy doesn't see it too. Didn't want to get in a bidding war with him as it wasn't marked and I don't think the lady even knew it was there.

The other guy finally leaves after buying anything that looked old. I take the rod down, the finish is rough and it is missing one line guide, it is filthy. I offer the lady a buck and she gladly accepts. The rod is a two section but won't come apart. I stick it in the bed of my truck it sticks out about six inches.

Now I didn't tell you it is my daughters 6th birthday and I am supposed to be getting home early so she can open presents and here I am at a garage sale. So I race home, jump out of my truck, run around the back end to make a quick entrance to see my daughter and in my haste I clip the 6 inches of the rod sticking out of the back end of the truck and break it. AAAARRRRGGG!

It was a Wright McGill.

How bad did I mess up?

Yeah I know my invest was only time and a dollar. What I was wondering is did I have one of the rare garage sale finds that could have netted me significantly more that my dollar investment had I sold before I broke it?

:( :? :o  :!: :?:  :bash:  jump usa , Dave the story will work out OK! the thing to remeber always take a vehical with a roof rack! most vans have them! make certain you take some mesurments of these hiden trophys , and above all stay calm! Now the good part is , if its a glass rod or other material , (Not WOOD) then its a rather easy fix! even you can do it, stay calm, dont rush and do it corectly! To get the rod apart, take a electronic engraving tool, slip a pice of very soft copper tubing over the engraver part, generaly 1/8th in ID flaten the end of the copper tubing and place against the fural and let it break the corosion lose! now as for the repair ofthe broken rod, gind a pice of fiberglass rod a old junker, cut off a section and make certain it slips inside the broken part, once you have a fit( sometimes you have to sand the plug untill it slips inside, then coat that part with a 2 part epoxy , and again slip the plug inside the rod and push the parts together, when they are together, wrap the boken area like toy would a line guide eye, then carfuly brush some epoxy over the thread so it looks like part of the decoration, let it dry sloly as you rurn the rod part untill the epoxy sets! let it finish drying for a few days, put your reel and line on an go fishing with your new used $1.00 rod! If it is a two piece W+M Bamboo rod, it is probably the highly sought after 7' model. I hope it wasnot. They have a hammer style handle , and are a dream to fish. It would be a shame to break one of them.
