Wanted ODDBALL Reels

Post by luresniper »

Looking for a few oddball reels to make a display. I often do talks for the Boy Scouts or nursing homes and am looking for some conversation pieces. Some of these are rare and pricy and some are not. Hope to find a few anyways. Thanks for any help. I would be interested in any other neat reels that I did not list. Thank you. Jason

:) 8) :!: :?:  jump usa , Jason, some of those reels you want are a bit pricy, for a good desplay, and reels these folks in nursing homes may have owned or still own, and also reels Boy Scout Troups can associate with, try things like some bronson push butons, or the mitchell 300, , the DART, early fly reels, the list goes on, some PENNs, ZEBCOs , then we as members or visitors most likly would donate for your cause! I belive it is a very good cause, and My rod repair man even donates reels, rods , tackle boxes for people to use ,Mike Wohlever and I have donated several hundred tackle boxes , I have donated several hundred reels , and the Rod Makers Shop has donated several hundred rods! all usable items, and also variants of these items! I would, if the board will allow it leave your address where to send items, I will myself in turn send you at least 10 reels! Col. milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG your Ohio Conection On Lake Eire !( )

Thanks for the offer

Milt:

Thanks for the offer it was overly generous. However, those reels could be better served by going to a group of disadvantaged children. Maybe I didn't write my thoughts properly. The reels are for my collection; however, from time to time I make displays for groups. As always, the oddest are some of the hardest and thus more expensive items to aquire. The purpose is for these groups to see fishing items that they never knew existed. After all, that is what makes them neat. So without further ado, let me know what you have. Jason

Milt:

I think your idea is great. If you find someone that could use the reels you offered, let me know. I'm sure I can donate a few of the 5,000 I have. Take care.

Hi guys...I have read your posts with interest...Every year I ask for and try to get some Zebcos or other cheap reels that I can clean and fix up to give to the young or young at heart if they need one. This past year I passed out reels to the lake concessions, maringa, and bait houses in this area to give to anyone that would like to go fishing but can't afford a reel or other equipment or if a fisherman breaks a reel and needs one but can't afford one.. I also donated to some charitable garage sales (fundraisers) for organiztions such as Women's Haven (a home for battered and abused women). ]

In the future if anyone has anything they can send it would be appreciated. To set everyone's mind at ease, I do not sell these to anyone, they are given to the concessions and various places for the reasons I described...In the past few years, I have passed out over close to 100...

Thanks for reading this rambling and thank you for any consideration you may give.

May everyone have a great day.

Yo Luresniper! Astounding! I figure if I bought one reel every day of the year for nearly 14 years I would finally have 5,000 reels! How did you manage this? I was proud of my Pflueger collection of 250 reels that took fifteen years to put together. And I spent a lot of time looking for them too. Five thousand! Wow! Bad Bob

Send address

Jerry:

Send me your address and I will get a box together of reels and mailed out to you.

Bob:

I bought a collection of about 3,000 reels off a woman whose husband was a collector and passed away about 15 years ago. Nothing earthshattering but a ton (literally) of reels anyway. The rest, I just gathered up over the years. By the way, great book on the Pflueger Supreme. Saw reels I never knew existed. A priceless reference book.

How about boy scout, and girl scout reels, rods, and other tackle? I have seen a few over the years. Anyone ever compiled a list of just what was made for girl and boy scouts?

Rods, reels, lures, tackle boxes, and etc?

I know I have seen fishing merit badges, merit badge books, a national jamboree fishing license pin, fishing staff pins at various camps. Camporee patches where fishing was a theme.

A baitcasting reel, Zebco reels for cub, boy scouts, and I think girl scouts.

A boy scout tackle box.

What else?

That would be an interesting collection to put together. Being an Eagle scout myself, in fact, it might be something I should start putting together.

Input? Anyone know just what was made?

Very interesting idea concerning a boy scout display. I have seen some of the items you mention (but not all of them) and in addition, saw a neat fly tying kit for boy scouts. I believe if completed it warranted a special badge. Also there are some early boy scout guide books with sections on fishing.

This would be a super cool display, if I find anything I will send it to you.

Cheers,

Dr. Todd, I just bought one of the fly tying kits off eBay. Thank you for letting me know they existed. Going to pair that with a few patches, pins, and my fishing merit badge and merit badge pamphlet, and that should get me started. Now to just add the reels, and see what else I can fine regarding Scouting fishing items, for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub scouts. Should make an interesting display.

I have seen a "scout" reel at a mall I sometimes cruise...it was in a very "vanilla" box and for a whole 10 bucks. It was so plain I passed on it...as i recall it was a fly reel. If you'd like for me to pick it up next time I'm thru, let me know!
