I have a 16/0 with all inside material the size of 12/0. Gears, bridge etc.
If you find any info on this I would appreciate it.
I believe it must be a first run. Then Penn found out it needed stronger components.
Thanks

Hello Big Lou,
A bit of history------------The 12/0 is the first big reel of the big game series although the 14/0 is listed(not pictured) in the Penn #6 catalog. According to the later part lists the 14/0 and 16/0 are the reels sharing the bridge & sleeve assembly, internal main and pinon gears. I am not sure if the bridge and gears are interchangeable down into the 12/0 because the 12/0 is a different side plate. The 12/0 shares the side plate with the 10/0.
It sounds to me like sometime in the past, the parts in your 16/0 reel were interchanged with a 12/0, if that is possible. I have not checked or made a comparison myself but I would think the bridges are different from the 12/0 to the 16/0. I know that the part numbers are different. A 12/0 bridge assembly more than likely has a different screw pattern than a 16/0 which would make the swap from a 12/0 to a 16/0 impossible.
What style handle is on your 16/0? That sometimes is a giveaway of the reels age. Of course a handle can be changed easily but they are still very helpful in dating a Penn reel.
