Need Help with Orvis 101 spinning reel

Post by $$$$robert »

I need to know who to put bail back on. I can't get the spring to turn it over. The pin that holds the bail also sticks when I try to turn the handle. It won't release the bail. Any drawlings or help would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert

Hi, Robert...those springs can be a pain...may need to be replaced, if you haven't already got a replacement. I will email you a pic of the schematics in a minute. However, it is likely that pulling the spool and lubbircating everything will get the trip arm to release...re spring, you just have to make sure you've got it in the guide holes, with the bail all the way in the "released" position before you tighten down the screw. If the spring is good, then there should be just enough starting tension to make this a slightly painful process, but not a terminal condition. This is a case of blind leading the blind, as i seem to have to wrestle with this issue every time, as well.

I imagine that the bail on this reel is also like the Mitchells and others, where i've been prompted to undo the side away from the spring and make sure that the bail does not spring away from the housing. If it does, gently bend it so that is it even with the bell housing and re-tighten.

hope this is of help!

unfortunately, your email doesn't work, so I couldn't email the schematic...here's a copy...sorry, folks, if it is football field sized.

Robert..you can likely right click on the pic and move to your desktop..you can then open it and use zoom in to see more detail.
