Did Heddon make a 5' bamboo casting rod
with Kingfisher engraved on the reel seat? If not, does anyone know who made it? A friend of mine emailed and asked and I told him I would check for him...
Thanks

Re: Did Heddon make a 5' bamboo casting rod
EK Tryon Co. sold the Kingfisher rods and while they did sell some of the fly rods in their line which were made by Heddon none of the Kingfisher rods were made by Heddon.Jerry J in OK wrote:with Kingfisher engraved on the reel seat? I took his friend has a Kingfisher 5' bamboo rod which he believed was made Heddon, my answer that Heddon did not make rods for Kingfisher is true but Heddon did make 5' rods for themselves and others.Dr. Rob wrote:I don't really know what you're asking, but I have two 5' bamboo Heddons. I'll look at the seats later.

Heddon was pretty proud of it's name...if it was heddon , i believe it generally said so. I have three five foot heddon rods and none of them say kingfisher...all #'d rods. A pick of the butt might help to see the style of reel lock you rod has, which may indicate a common maker.
I also see that Joe Edson has a glass Kingfisher rod listed on Joes at the moment. Maybe his rod has further on the maker or seller and maybe they are the same . Joe's a nice guy and would be happy to pass on info, if you give him an email.
LOL..I just re-read my post and was going to edit it, but decided the alternate spelling of "pic" was too Freudian to change

According to Michael Sinclair's book on Heddon Bamboo Rods, Heddon did make rods for Edward K. Tryon, the owner of the Kingfisher trademark I assume we are discussing. Sinclair states that they did NOT make any rods that bore the Kingfisher trademark. All the Heddon/Tryon rods were labeled "Jay Harvey" to separate them from the less expensive Kingfisher brand rods. Jay Harvey is most often thought to be a ficticious name made up by Tryon.
Ah, okay. I just meant that I don't know anything about Heddon, or Bamboo, or Kingfisher. A little about 5', but that's all.
Of course, if I read this thread I'll learn something.
I forgot to look at the rods; will later.
LATE ADDENDUM, COUPLE DAYS LATER:
Right then, reel seat on the one is stamped, PAT. Other one is stamped HEDDON'S MADE IN USA PATENT 1624052
Nothing on the original aluminum rod tube either, except the usual (?) Heddon logo 'n' stuff.
Saaay... is any of this of collector interest? I'm not particularly keen m'self...
