source for reels parts (screws)

Post by GaryD »

Hello Gents;

I have a Meisselbach #17 "Expert" reel that needs a replacement screw. The screw I seek is that which retains the spool and is a nickel plated filister head slotted type. Thread looks to be a 5-40 or 6-40. Can anyone refer me to a source?

a Place to get fastners!!

:D :) 8) :wink: :!: :?: :idea: jump usa , the company ( MICRO FASTNERS 110 Hillcrest Road, Flemington New Jersey, 08822 , phone 1-908-806-4050) web site microfasteners.com may well hve the size, however you will need the size imformation! I would suggest you buy yourself a thread gauge with the majority of pitches mostly uss and sae, you wont need metric for your reel, however if you plan on doing any metric reels its best to also buy one of the pitch gauges! Go to a decent hardware store for these tools not a all purpose store. As I recal your reel uses a sharp V thread, however after world war 2 they all started to use Blow injected sctres and threads and these were flat top threads, a Flat top thread will fit most v-threads however a v thread will not go into a flat top thread! I trust this is of some help! Col. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG your Ohio Conection On Lake ERIE

Thanks guys, it's appreciated. I'm cleaning up a Meisselbach #17 "Expert" for a client. The spool retaining screw had been broken off in the axel. I hope to find an NOS original type fastener, nickle plated with a similar patina as the oriiginal. Does'nt look good to find one so will alter a modern made fastener and "age" it to replace the origial.
