Hello,
Just a question, is there somebody out there who has an idea for nice Reel display stands?
I collect Mitchell reels and look for nice display stands.

Hi,
Here one of my favorite stands in my collection.
The general idea is pretty simple : get a nice piece of wood and place the reel-holding part of an old rod on it. At fleamarkets etc you can find numurous old fiberglass-rods that can be used, but any old rod will do if you don't mind sawing it... I am currently still collecting a bunch of these and hope to start making a series of reel display units this winter.
You can use fly-rods for fly-reels, spinning rod for spinning reels etc.. Try to find a rod that corresponds the reel you want it to hold, can be the same type, brand or period it was made.

Reel display
Hello,
Thinks for the info, but I rather do not mount the reels on a rod, most of my reels are NIB and have no wear on the reelfooot.

Hi Jim,
That type of reel is the only fixed-spool-type of reel they ever made in Belgium, sometimes referred to as the Sewing Machine. About 15 or so have been found so far. Dating is believed to be 1930's There are a few different sizes and colors. The story is that they were made after-hours by an employee of the FN-Herstal factory (the FN gun factory that was linked to Browning at some point in time)
Other than these Belgium has little to offer for the reel collector, besides the aluminum reels made near Luik/Liège by different companies. I have a large collection of those, seems there are an infinite number of different ones to be found. Only a few are actually marked L.Ory or ARMAF, most are unmarked. Some pivotting were made as well.
