Unsolicited offers to sell
I get unsolicited offers of old tackle via email often. I always wonder Why Me? ...Is this real or scam? How does one weed thru the scams to that one great find? How about some sage/experienced advice reelguys.

I never give my email address to anyone I don't know and rarely surf anything, but it is still listed in ORCA and NFLCC directories for whoever checks it. However, after seven years of bidding on eBay I have never received a single such offer as you have. The answer I must assume is that you have surfed some of the more offbeat sites (I don't know which ones are 'offbeat' but bet they are out there). Or perhaps one of your eBay sellers you bought from shared your address with someone. All sorts of possibilities here. I did receive one scam offer from a mystery sleeze who wanted me to buy a rare reel he 'had' just like the one I was outbid on. Interesting also that the amount he was asking was the amount I had bid! Its a dangerous world this cyperspace place! Bad Bob

I have been offered several reels from people wanting to sell a reel like one that I was biding on on Ebay. I have gotten several of my nicer Pflueger Templar reels that way for much less then if they were to put them up for bid. I guess they didnt want to bother learning how to list them - some people just dont know how to list things on Ebay.
With that being said Im probally lucky I havent got ripped off by someone. But its not like Ebay or Paypal has ever helped me when I needed them to get a refund. I always make sure I get pics, maybe ask for a close up of the foot or something to make sure they actually have the reel.
I have weeded out the scams like getting a false 2nd chance offer on a reel that I was the 5th bidder down and they wanted to offer it to me for hundreds less then what it sold for. Yeah right.
Anyways use your better judgement, if its to good to be true then it you know it is! Jeff
