information on antique phluger brass fly reels

Post by lsc »

To anyone out there maybe you can help me get some info about this reel. It is about 2and half inches in dia. cut out open brass side and the only number on it is the number 60 on the bottem. Any info would be great, it was my grandfathers so i know that it is at least 80 yrs old. Again any info would be great.

Thankyou

Luis-Sounds like it might be a Pflueger Progress, although the name is usually on the top of the foot. Enterprise did, however, also make this as a "trade" reel with only the size shown. You did not say if the name "Pflueger" was shown or if you knew this from your grandfather. If a Progress 80 or more years old, it should also be raised pillar.
They did not make an all brass Progress. Likely the original gun metal finish has simply worn off. Common occurence. Posting a pic will be the definitive thing to do. Hope this helps. Bad Bob (alias RAM and some other uncomplimentary names)

Bad Bob, thanks for the info, and yes it does say "pfluger" on the top of the foot, also is the trade mark ingraving of what looks like a dog or cat. And yes it is stamped "Progress" the number 60 is on the bottom. And it still shows signs of another finish on it. I will try to get a picture on soon, but any other info would be welcome.

Thanks
