heres a million dollar question came across two reels recently purchased at marine flea market here in florida a edward vom hofe 621 4/0 just with single lever all functions work right reel in great condition after cleaning and regreasing reel looks to have rubber plating where other lever would be on dual 621's i have seen it looks normal seller says it was a option time of when reel was built. other reel is a julius vom hofe 2/0 made for dame stoddard my question with this one it has optom? on side can anyone educate me on these reels
Johhny,
Your JVH should say "Optimus" on the side, as well as the Dame, Stoddard & Co., Boston marking. This is an old trade house and your reel dates from around 1900-1910. Most JVH reels don't command as high a prices as the EVH ones. I think I paid around $100 for my JVH Optimus but it was in very nice condition. I don't know what condition your reel is.
Cheers,
