New Mitchell Collector Looking for Mitchell Items
I'm a fairly new Mitchell Collector, and I'm looking for items to add to my collection...if you have anything I may be interested in, please let me know. I am interested in many things that you may find common, but I may find new or not common. Even if you don't want to part with something, but you wouldn't mind sharing photos or knowledge, I would appreciate it. I am really interested in the salesmens' "suitcases." And I have looked all over for a rod, or just rod handle, to display my Mitchell 510. I have trading stock of all kinds, and of course cash. Thanks for reading this, and I hope to hear from some of you soon.
While I have hundreds of Mitchell reels I've found that "salesmans' suit cases" & 500 series rods are made out of unobtainium. Ebay is among the few places to see these & this forum is occupied by a number of rivals. For a "fairly new Mitchell Collector" its going to be hard starting at the top of the mountain & climbing down. You'd do yourself a favor by posting a short WANTED list & asking about specifics, instead of asking for "anything" & the very rare.
Haven't got any Mitchell Salt Water half bail (pre-302) items among your "trading stock"?

Hi Michell collector from Buckeye land. Welcome to ORCA. Have a few reels that are for trade or sale, but you may already have on hand. However, I am looking for Marhoff 1964 reels made between 1910 thru 1922. Also, have other interest in old non level winds like about everybody else. Am going to downsize stuff soon and the Michells are on the way out.

Araye50, When I said new mitchell collector, it was relative
I have actually been collecting about 5 years, but I have friends that have been collecting for 50 years...so yes, I consider 5 years fairly new. I have a salesman's "suitcase," but I'm not sure exactly how many versions there were. There are conolon rods for the 510 out there, and I was to visit an Orca member the other day that easily had over a dozen on the wall, with extras in the corner. However, he happens to be a die hard 510 and 508 collector, so he wouldn't part with any. Understandable. I have a great many mitchell "jewels," but I'm learning that the list of varying versions and releases is a very long one. I have a few reels that aren't listed in any of the books I've seen, including the new book by Dennis Roberts. I recently obtained two of those books, and I owe that to you (araye50) for pointing me in the right direction.

Dale, I'm David Dennison, Glad to meet you
If I have an idea of what all you're looking for, I'll be ready to trade when you are. Give me an idea of what you have also.

mitchell508 rod and reel
Hello, I have put some pictures of the rod and reel on a CD and I will try to Email them to you. I am using a computer at a public building so I do not know if I can. If I am unable to email to your address, Ican mail the pictures to you through the mail. The reel is in very good working condition. All parts, bail spring, drag,anti-reverse,line roller, and spool release button are fine. There is some tarnish on the bail metal and a few small chips in the paint of the reel. The rod is straight and all the eyes are intact and undamaged, as are the eye bindings. There is some faded paint on the rod.The cork handle andreel to rod connection part of the handle, are fine. I have been the sole owner and user of the rod and reel, since the 1970s. Iwill keep in contact with you. Greg U.
