On a Roll!

Post by Reel Geezer »

Last week it was size; today it was numbers.
Last Friday I had a great 45 minutes on the Snake River. On one short bank I boated a 16, 2-17s, an 18, and a 20 inch smallmouths. The 20" fish is shown here with some old goat:

Today I battled 10-20 MPH winds that actually blew me up the river, but between 11 and 2 I probably caught 60 smallies. These were fish in the 10-17" range. All were caught on 2-4" plastic worms and craws. A typical example is shown here:

It was a great day, with several periods when I had a strike on every cast. If a fish jumped and threw the bait another one grabbed it before I could reel it in. Since this is a reel site, the one shown in the photo is a Shimano Conquest 50S (a Japanese market reel made for light line fishing). The rod is a St. Croix 6' Legend Elite.

fine fish - looks like a great day.

I'm finally getting rained out here - didn't fish at all last weekend and the girls wanted to go to the creek - it was running 3000 cfs.
I do have plan for this weekend, though, if my favorite headwater doesn't get flooded between now and then.

My favorite fish and a beauty at that. Well done.
