Observation

Post by RAM »

In previous times (not that long ago) that which was called:
"a character weakness" or
"abnormal behavior"

is now properly referred to as:
"a disease" or
"a lifestyle choice"

Is this great country or what? No one is responsible for anything anymore! (except George, who is responsible for everything).

In previous times, they also used to burn heretics at the stake, enslave people based on the color of their skin, and dump their raw sewage directly into their drinking water.

Some people want to live in the past. Not me. I'll take today over yesterday any day of the week, and settle for teaching and writing about times gone by.

Yo Teal-The following is offered for the cause of continuing controversy only-the spice of blogging!:

Agreed that burning heretics at the stake is a bit over the limit-unless they say the Bulldogs suck.

On the other hand, that was a bit longer ago than "not that long ago". I bet you would agree there has been a lot of history between heretic burning and the (with less than exeplary time-tested research) categorizing of all addictions as diseases (of course, my reel addiction was definitely caused by a virus).

Is it science to call a gambling addiction a disease, and to arbitrarily relegate "character weakness" to the level of the archaic? This has become the "accepted" virtually overnight (historically speaking). I can suggest, as example, that you can walk past the bookie's window without stopping if you have sufficient character, but often breathing in a virus is not as easily avoided. Character is all we have! If we all flush the concept of character and the expression of will, we will eventually end up with anarchy-or worse.
As comedian Flip Wilson once said, playing the part of Geraldine: "The Devil made me buy that dress!"

In the final analysis, I suggest that mentally and physically healthy people are (in my worthless opinion) responsible for their own decisions. And, in defense of people making bad decisions, don't be too critical. As for myself, I hadn't made one today before starting this blog.

But the truth is if it does not cost me money or threaten anyone, I don't care what people do or think. As I say: Is this a great country or what!
