Al is a shoo-in for the Nobel Peace prize. Bet on it. If so, it will be two consecutive Nobel Peace Laureates for VU guys. Can any other school match that? (or any other school with two peace laureates period?). Al attended the Law School and the School of Religion (figure that one) while working for the Nashville Tennessean here after his tour of duty in Viet Nam, but did not graduate from Vanderbilt.
Interesting family connection in a way here. My cousin was U.S. Information Officer for the State Department in Nam about the same general time as Al's tour, and also started his career working for the Tennessean. Small world.
