Langley Whitecap 410: Age and Value?

Post by ak-fish »

A customer brought in a Langley Whitecap 410 star drag baitcaster and asked its age and value; she wants to know if she should fish it or not. It's in excellent condition. Thanks in advance.

ak-fish,
Hell yes she should fish it.They are nice reels to throw bass plugs with. The only thing that I don't like about them is they "click" when you retrieve the line. That is because of the way the drag and anti-reverse is made.Other then that a fine, rugged reel.
In my opinion not as smooth a casting action as my Pfluegers or my Lurecast but a nice old reel that isn't direct drive. One can get deceant (<spelling)distance casting plugs.I don't use under 15 lb test mono with mine.
I've got 2.Both bought off ebay for around $30.00 including shipping.
In fact I'm going to use mine tomorrow as the post spawn topwater bite is getting real good out here.

The Whitecap was produced from the late 1940s until 1962, when Langley sold their fishing tackle business to Zebco. I agree that it could well be fished, but if not, value would be in the $25 to $40 range.
