Idaho Warming?

Post by Reel Geezer »

Boise had snow today. The latest date ever since they started keeping records in 1889.

Please bring back some Idaho warming.

On the East Coast, officials revealed the weekend heat wave had claimed 17 lives. Most of the victims were elderly. Eight died in Philadelphia of heat-related causes, six others in New York City, two in Maryland and one in the Philadelphia suburb of Pottstown.

According to the fishing contest report, wasn't there snow in Colorado last week? Isn't that unusual too for this time of year? Here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, we are having a drought.

In re to Steve's note: Most people who die from heat are elderly who don't have air conditioning. It occurs to me that neighbors of older people everywhere should be aware of their needs and get a few dollars together and buy them a window unit (they cost under $100.00) then take a few minutes to install it for them. There is absolutely NO reason for old or poor people in the U.S. to die of heat stroke in their homes or apartments. In Nashville the electric service has a program with a contribution of one dollar a month (voluntary) added to our bill that goes to help the poor pay for their electricity use.
But I suppose that if an old chap is smashed by a hit and run driver and numerous cars just drive by gawking at him laying in the street and not stopping to help we can't expect too much can we? BB

Thanks, BB, I'll pass it on. Now the question is whether or not we should count the guy who died upstairs while his A/C was running downstairs, the guy who collapsed while mowing his lawn (His wind-powered hybrid wasn't working.), or the guy who fell asleep while sunbathing on his balcony. The point was simply that it was hot here while it was snowing in Idaho.
Philadelphia medical examiner's spokesman Jeff Moran...noted that some heat waves in the 1990s had been far deadlier, with 118 deaths ruled as heat-related in 1993 and more than 70 in 1995.
Maybe it's due to global cooling.

It is supposed to be 83 today in Boise, Phil. Go fishing and catch one for me!

PS to Steve: All three of those guys are candidates for a Darwin Award unless they were elderly or already out of the gene pool for some other reason. Hang in there. A cold front is on the way. Since it is going to be warm in Idaho, maybe it will snow in PA! BB

I did. I went down to the River and Bert and I had a great time. It wasn't sensational, but I did manage about a dozen smallmouth, with the best one a beautifully colored 16" fish. We saw a mink, lots of wildfowl, a mule deer doe and her fawn, and lots of carp. No channel cats for dinner, however.

Here on the south side of Lake Lowell we didn't make it up to 83. The best we did was 81. That was after a low of 42. Nothing like a 40 degree swing during the day.
