I have all my old reels in or on old wooden shelves, crates or benchs. While I like the character of the wood, I must admit that clear case really highlights the reels.

Nice case. Nice collection!

Thanks Guys,

Dave I have several wood "shelves" also. They do look very nice. I prefer finding old tool box trays and screwing them to the wall, they are usually the perfect size for any reel under 100 yards.

This case used to be a watch case phil tells me. Its perfect and it locks, which I needed for some of these reels that are a little fragile. Little kids come over every couple weekends and now they can't play with the reels. I do have some laying around that I always let them play with, maybe someday I'll convert them into future orcans.

One thing I forgot to mention was that you might want to reconsider keeping those boxes out near the sunlight. The red ink used on the labels might tend to fade. I've seen many pflueger boxes that appeared to suffer from that but I'm not 100% sure sunlight was the culprit.

Thanks for the tip brian. I don't usually keep in in the sunlight I just put it there to lighten up the pictures. I always wondered how fast the sun fades boxes.

nice reels!

Post by fishbugman »

That is one super nice collection of tough reels, but one sure jumps out at me as I collect lefties. Is that Pflueger Supreme lefty all stock and legit? I have been in a couple discussions about this before and I maybe gave up my search a little premature. The only one I have ever heard of until now as I was waving my wallet wildly, turned out to have a right handed headcap on it, upside down. It only had one set of holes for pillars and foot, so I assume it was custom made from right handed parts. Please tell me more...

I've expected Ram or Robin to answer this, but you can visit
PFLUEGER PFACTS, p 65.
or The Reel News, Holiday Issue, 2000.
for information about the upside down reel and left handed Supremes. I don't collect Pflueger, so I don't know if there is any new information.

My take on the left hand supremes with the upside down sideplate
is that they are probably the last ones produced by pflueger after
they ran out of the older style ones that they could just stamp so the
writing was rightside up. This one has the cast face with the words
upside down. The holes are all there for the right hand version but one
of the screws is a false screw. They also have the modidified levelwind
just like the other lefties. The wear on the reel is consistant all
across the board so there is no reason to assume it was changed. I just
assume that pflueger got a few orders for these left handed ones after
the oldstock sideplates ran out so they made them this way for a while.
I have seen two of them like this now and neither seemed modified after
they left the factory. I will post some pictures tonight of the reel
and inside.

I am sorry if I offended anyone with politeness. I do need to increase my dosage of meds. We are all fishermen, scruffy and slightly smelly and I didn't think any of the old salts would think twice at a little gruff language, har dee ho thar she blows. However, I forgot there are fly fishermen on the board also who need everything pristine and meticulous, including the part in their hair. It must really ruin their day when the hours and hours of breathing fresh air and casting at shadows and talking to rocks is interupted by a fish with the gaul to steal their bait and make them grab the slimy thing to unhook and release it. Again, my apology offered on a retractible leash for a limited time only, I think the meds are kicking in.

It's okay, Richard...just don't let it happen again...it disturbs the forces of Nature that are holding us on the planet. But fergawdsakes, next time we go out fishing, at least have the decency to bring CLOTH napkins!

ps: Sorry for the highjack, Robyn...great case!

E.A. Worth

Post by fishbugman »

Back to your thread Robin and sorry for the temp. hijack...How is your E.A. Pflueger Worth marked? I have seen those marked simply "Worth" which I assumed was a Pflueger Worth that was a trade reel and an earlier version and with the Pflueger name which I believe would be the latest version. Sounds like the reel you have is earlier than either of those and something much different or the trade reel version I know about is actually an E.A. reel.

The E.A. Pflueger Co. worth is marked worth in block letters. It looks significantly different from the enterprise worth. The clicker is on the tail plate and the handle is a little different. I will post some pictures of it tonight when I take some of the supreme.

Here's some pictures. And no problem with the hijacking I've done it a time or two also. Keeps things interesting! :D

Here's the lefty first. In the second picture you can see the false screw used to cover the hole with no pillar. also you can see where the holes for the foot should be if this were a regular supreme.

Thanks Robin for the pictures. Darn, I had an E.A. Pflueger Worth with same "WORTH Trade Mark" on two lines and sold it thinking it was just a trade reel made by Enterprise. The one I had if I remember correctly, had the clicker and drag on the handle side so there is probably another variation on that reel. It seems like one sold on EBAY about 2-3 months ago with the Worth Trade Mark name, but I do not remember how the drag/click set up was on that one. Very nice reel!

I think your Supreme is identical to the one I located about 6-8 years ago. I never took it apart to know that one screw was a dummy, but that would account for why I only noticed one set of screw holes. Hopefully, they do not start showing up by the dozens via industrious thieves/intrepenuers.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

The best way to tell an E.A. reel is by the endcaps. they are significantly different then enterprise endcaps.
