spinning tackle

Post by Ron Mc »

a couple to show off
Mitchell 440 (a mint boxed reel) - midnight blue - on matching blue Garcia 4-star rod (rod is not quite mint, but still has most of the plastic cork cover)
Guess the midnight blue doesn't show, but I was very happy with the color saturation on the rod.
Hardy Altex on Arjon cane rod (this reel is a cherry and my winning bid made the UK seller so mad that he didn't ship the spare spool that was supposed to come with it - that's OK, I bought another)
I've never fished the Mitchell combo, but I've fished the Altex many times.

in hindsight, I should have hung a rapala on a tackle box tray

I'm not really big into hardy, but it look awsome!

And same for the Mitchell. I want a combo! :D

I fished through a Mitchell 300 growing up.
Just wore it out on redfish, seatrout and mackerel.
It still works, however noisy.
But the Altex, IMO, is the best fishing reel ever made, especially when you consider the original design was 1931.

Next best spinning reel, IMO again, is the French-made Luxor.
Here's my daughter's c. 1937 reel, on a rod I believe to be an Airex.

And my EX- Luxor #1 with a (once) mint H-I Star glass rod.
I've fished this for nursery seatrout off a lighted pier at night with my girls.
Very smooth reel and nice-casting rod.

p.s. rumor has it that the fiberglassflyrodders board is going to start a new page for spinning and casting rods and assorted tackle.
