ReelMan1988:

I don't know why you seem to get on the nerves of a few of the members of this club. Bad Day Maybe? I enjoy your posts and the pics. Keep 'em coming!

It would appear your fathers fasination with reels is of long standing. What made him catch the bug?

Do you have any shots of big old J.A. Coxe reels? I know they made a 20/O. I think is was a cradle reel.

The picture of the Penn 116--12/0 in your post is either a 1937 or 1938. Those were the only years that handle was used. The 12/0 was introduced in 1937.

The picture of the Penn Senator 115--9/0 is the introduction year, 1936, for the Senator. In 1936, only the 9/0 was sold, all the other Senators were on the drawing boards. These are very rare, the reel will pop up from time to time but the whole package (like the one pictured here) is a special find. I believe this reel was sold in the box pictured in 1936 and 1937 but the brochures were different. This picture is a 1936 brochure. In 1938, Penn introduced the Lighthouse box.

For the 12/0, we had the bid $200 and it shot to $500 in 10 sec. We do not own these 2. Lost and almost forgotten bids... untill now. Let me dig some more up!

Mike I'm interested on seeing some of your old senators. Your still looking for a 9/0, 12/0, and 14/0 right?

I am not looking for a 9/0, 12/0 or 14/0. The only pre-war Senator I want at this time is the 16/0. I have the others. The series is small. It only goes from 4/0 to 16/0 (seven reels in all). The 1/0. 2/0 and 3/0 are post war reels as are all the variations on Senators, like the high speed model and the wide models. As I have said in the past, concerning normal Penn production reels, I am stuck in the 1930's.

The old 10/0 you have pictured here is around a 1949 or 50.

All first generation Senator's are pictured in the pre 1948 catalogs. They are all the same except for size and handles. No secrets here...
